I think that a great deal can be learned by listening to native-speake rs and talking ‘live’ with them. The Lebanese dialect for example has a lot of idioms and you have to live with lebanese people and feel their culture to understand it. Besides making mistakes is a sign of learning and it helps the teacher to have an idea about what you know or don't.
