    Teaching Approach

Danish is not a difficult language grammatically ; most native English speakers find pronunciation to be the major challenge. It is quite gutteral and contains several sounds and even letters not found in English. I have developed techniques to reduce or eliminate the American accent in my students' Danish, as I am both a professional trainer in another industry, and a native Danish speaker.

    Program Description

I offer individual tutoring or group classes in the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley areas.

    Teaching Experience

I have been a professional trainer in the financial services and insurance industries for 30 years. This has involved mastering cirriculum design and implentation of sophisticated adult education methodology. I have used the same approach in teaching Danish.

    Teacher Training

As teaching Danish is a hobby for me, my formal credentials only apply to the financial services industry. There, I hold numerous designations including a Master of Science in Financial Services. I apply the same teaching methodology in my approach to teaching Danish, making the experience fun and effective at the same time.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is your teaching schedule?

Classes are Wednesday evenings 7-9 beginning in September and January, and running 12 weeks. They are held in Woodland Hills, California. Tutoring is by appointment. Additional fees may apply to tutoring outside the LA-San Fernando Valley area.

    What is your payment policy?

Al l classes are paid for in advance by cash or check.

Do I need to learn Danish?

Le arning Danish is not for everyone. Denmark is a very "user friendly" country for English speakers to visit. If you are planning on visiting as a tourist, you will find that virtually everyone you need to deal with speaks English quite fluently. English is also widely used in business, so likewise the business traveler will have few problems. Danes also have a dry witty sense of humor, and will probably laugh at clumsy attempts at the language with a heavy American accent. Danes value genuineness-- you'll be better off being who you are and sticking to English.

I recommend learning Danish only if you want to move "beyond the tourist" in some way, such as spending a year there as an exchange student, or doing research. Language and culture are inseparable, and understanding the language will give you greater insight into Danish culture. Also, if you want to get off the beaten path and stay in homes or plan to visit older Danes who may not speak English, knowing at least some Danish will be necessary.

    Cost of Lessons

Private tutoring is $35 per hour, group classes are generally $160 for 24 classroom hours.
