What makes my approach both unique and effective is that it is very slow, methodical, in-depth, and personal. I do my best to get to know every student whom I tutor--to know their strengths and weaknesses, their worries and concerns, their joys and abilities--so that I can more adequately enhance his or her capabilities as a writer, speaker, and student. I have always gotten very positive reviews and results from my tutees and would look forward to helping more students either in person overseas or by way of Internet access.

Program Description

I am an independent tutor who enjoys helping out students one-on-one, particularly with writing and speaking better English. (I do have two part-time tutoring jobs right now with specific organizations , but I have also been known to tutor students in my own time.) I have helped students from Kenya, Thailand, Mexico, Kazakhstan, and elsewhere write better papers and better understand English. I would love to have a job where I can tutor, preferably overseas at some point, particularly in a nation such as Russia or region such as Eastern Europe.

Teaching Experience

I have not taught, but I have tutored extensively for several years now. Even as a high school senior in 2003, I held a few private tutoring sessions (in math, not English). Then, from August 2006 until December 2007, I was a community college tutor in my hometown; this gave me the opportunity to tutor students from a variety of ages and backgrounds. From January until May of 2008, I served as a tutor for a high school Upward Bound program. Finally, I have been a college-level tutor at a university for the past three weeks and may be starting another part-time high school tutoring job in a few weeks.

I have received a bachelor's degree in history from a major American university; I have excelled in the subjects that I tutor (mainly English and social studies); I have held three different part-time tutoring positions and may soon hold a fourth; I have been taken two official college courses on how to tutor and teach students with learning disabilities; and finally, I received my college degree online, so I am very familiar with what it takes for effective education and communication via the Internet.
