    Teaching Approach

My name is Marialuce, I am 34 years old and I live in Pistoia, a nice city very close to Florence, Tuscany. I was born here and Italian is my native language.

I have been teaching italian as foreign language since almost ten years. I started when I was a students at “Università per stranieri di Siena” (University for foreigners, in Siena) and since then I have never stopped being a teacher. I also teach spanish language as I've been studying it for 12 years and I've been using it a lot for my job (a lot of my “offline” students come from Spain), for my interests (I love travelling and I've been in many countries where spanish is spoken) and for my private life (my sister in law is from Argentina).

I love teaching and I have a long experience in teaching to students coming from many different places and many different background. So I learned to modulate and organize my lessons according to needs and backgrounds of my students. My lessons are never the same, they depend a lot on what the student is looking for, on the reason for which he/she is studying the language and on the use he/she wants to do of it.
What most of all my experience as a teacher showed me is that there is not a student like any other, and this makes my job a continuous challenge and a unique and extremely interesting experience.
When I teach languages I try to focus on different aspects, like vocabulary, grammar, conversation, pronunciation because I want my students to get an active approach towards the language, to build solid basics knowledge and get more confident. I have a lot of material that I can share with my students and I also make use of online resources.
I am very patient, I really like explaining things and helping students to understand all those aspects that are most difficult for them. I put a lot of effort and passion in what I do and how I do it. Before being a teacher, I've always been a language student, so I know what a student needs!I am really happy when I see that students feel at ease throughout the lesson while they improve their own skill. When I realize that the language experience becomes something of easy and fun it means a lot to me, it means that I am doing a good job and that people are learning!

    Program Description

Each student is different and has different needs and expectations. For this reason each programme is specifically tailored on the student's needs. I can focus more on conversation, if needed, (from basic to advanced), teaching grammar as well while introducing the student to the rich Italian culture. I try to mix the modern contextual and active teaching methods with the traditional solid approach. I can help students passing their exams, tranlating difficult poems and novels, putting together a resume or writing texts. I can also teach them how to use Italian in everyday conversations as well for their business.
I offer a first free lesson of 30 minutes, to have the possibility to know the student and share the objectives of the lessons. I can also send students an assessment test to determine their level, unless they are absolute beginners. According to the test, and to the first meeting, I prepare each lesson carefully, including tutorials, homework to do at home, scanned pages of books that may be useful. I have plenty of my own material on files that I can share with students. The cost of the course also includes the correction of exercises that students can send me outside of class hours.
Obviously this is modulated and integrated with other media based on the type of lesson that the student chooses, whether online, by e-mail, chat or live.

If students are planning to come to Italy for a holiday and at the same time studying the language, I can help them to find a place to stay and I am available to meet for lessons (this is if the student is planning to come in Pistoia, my city, or at least to Florence, 30 minutes by train from Pistoia). I can also help students to take part in activities related to Italian culture, such as cooking classes, excursions, etc. ..

    Teaching Experience

I started teaching Italian in 2004 during University. My first experience was with some 7 years old children, just arrived from Peru. Since then I have never stopped teaching and I did a lot of experience in different associations and schools in my area. Since 2009, this is my work in all respects. I teach to children, to adults and to kids . For this reason I have developed a great deal of patience in the interaction with the students and the ability to relate to different ages and needs.
I currently teach Spanish language to primary school children. In addition, I teach Italian to trainees from different European countries, boys and girls of about 25 years remaining in Pistoia for about three months to do an internship. I teach Italian also to adults immigrants who live in Pistoia and environs and who need to know the language to work and get the documents .
All my students have always told me that I have a lot of patience, that I am very calm and that I have the right approach with them.
I also taught during the summer of 2010 to a group of American students who came to Italy to study Italian and diction for their job: they were opera singers.

    Teacher Training

I graduated in 2005 in the University for Foreigners of Siena, in the Faculty of Italian Language and Culture.
In 2009 I took a postgraduate degree at the University Ca 'Foscari of Venice, in the Faculty of Intercultural Studies.

I have been certified for the DELE Spanish languag

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1) What is your teaching schedule?
I am flexible with times and dates. Once or twice a week for 1 or 2 hours, but even more if students need. I am available during the day and also the evening. In the first free lesson we can talk about that too, and organize the schedule to suit the student's preferences. Of course we will find a convenient time and date for both of us. I am available also on weekends.

    2) What are your payment policy and requested payment methods?

Payment in advance is preferred but I accept also payments done soon after the lesson. Lessons must be fixed at least preferably 24 hours in advance, but students can try also to write me some hours before and if I have time we can arrange it! If the lesson is unattended without prior notice ( 24 hours of notice to cancel it) I won't be able to refund it, but if you give a prior notice also a few hours before, I can shift it to some other date and time easily.
I accept payments through Paypal, ricarica Poste pay (for Italy only), and cash for “live” classes.
I offer a first free lesson of 30 minutes, to have the possibility to know the student , to discuss my teaching approach, give an exemple of my teaching method and share the objectives of the lessons.

3 ) Where do you live exactly?

I was born and I live in Pistoia, a nice city in Tuscany, very close to Florence. People sometimes refer to Pistoia as a "little Florence" for its amazing concentration of art and architecture in a much smaller city. Pistoia's amazing main square, the Piazza del Duomo, is bounded by some terrific examples of medieval architecture, including the Cathedral of San Zeno and its bell tower and the 14th century Gothic Baptistery of San Giovanni in Corte. Adjacent is the medieval marketplace, still in service today. The market stalls you see are still in medieval style with heavy shutters and stone benches. Pistoia is also noted for its fine cuisine. Pistoia is located in a strategic position to visit many of the most beautiful cities of Tuscany. It's close to Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Siena. In a short time you can reach the mountains and also the sea. It's very welcoming but less chaotic and full of tourists than it's Florence, and is a good alternative to stay and then move on to visit other cities.

    Cost of Lessons

18 euro for one hour (60 minutes). I give different options of discount, for exemple:
stu dents who request “packages” for an intensive program (ex: 10 lessons for 160 euro instead of 180)
student s who decide to study in groups ( for exemple 2 students pay 30 euros for one hour instead of 36 euros, 3 students 42 euros..)
stu dents who pay a number of lessons in advance

An yway, I can give more specific details for each single case.
