Description Greetings, and Salam.
I am an English speaker currently studying Classical Arabic. I desire to learn Persian for the following reasons, and it is my hope to be able to find a tutor who is sympathetic with my aims.

I have an intense love of the poets Hafiz, Sa'adi, and Rumi, having read them in English but as poetry is a nuanced art dependent on it's mother tongue, I realize I can only appreciate the treasures of Persian poetry if I learn it's tongue.

Ma ny years ago my professor in University was Dr. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, a noted expert on Islamic civilization History as well as Persian Sufism. My courses with Dr. Nasr awakened a much greater appreciation for the philosophical and aesthetic aspects of Islam's tradition worldwide, and in particular the unique role that Persian culture and civilization played in Islam's development. I am a Muslim by birth and conviction and wish to better understand the massive influence of Persian civilization all through the Eastern Islamic world, and it's role in the cultures of Mughal India, and Turkey as well.

I have an interest in Indo-european history and civilizations , and realize that knowing Persian is a necessity to better accessing the ancient histories of Iran and Central Asia.

Vita lly, due to the 'clash of civilizations ' between east and west, I believe it is vital that individuals serve as bridges of cultural understanding . As I am a Westerner by birth and culture, but also a Muslim by birth to Converts to Islam, and adult conviction and education, I feel a role I can play is as an interpreter of the West for Easterners and the East for Westerners, to better help create mutual accord and understanding , and to minimize the atmosphere of conflict.

For these reasons I wish to begin learning Persian, in addition to my learning Arabic.Thereb y I may better understand Iran's unique philosophical and cultural gifts to the world, both Islamic and pre-Islamic, and serve as cross cultural bridge of understanding between the USA and Iran. Moreover as an amateur student of history much history of figures like Babur, or Shah Timur, or Mahmud Ghaznawi, or the countries from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan to Mughal India, is in Persian form as persian was the language of cultural transmission. By learning Persian I begin to have access to the histories of much of this period and its leading figures.

L astly, and not least of all, when I encounter Iranian and ethnically Persian individuals in my travels I wish to do them the honor of being able to converse with them in their own tongue, for it honors a person to speak to them in their tongue.

Th ank you
