Starting in late August 2010, I will be conducting research in India through the Fulbright program. I plan to spend about nine months in India. I will be primarily based in the town of Hampi, but would like to spend about one month at the beginning of my grant in either Bangalore or Mysore beginning to learn Kannada. I am a complete novice, as I have no previous experience with Kannada (though I plan to learn some through language software prior to arriving). I would like to dedicate at least six or seven (if not more) hours per week -- for about four or five weeks -- to language lessons. I am looking for a teacher who is, ideally, a native speaker of Kannada, as well as someone who is patient and can explain things well.
