Previously I have had 1:1 tuition and then 6 terms at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies - London) part time during 2003/4. The next level would have been intermediate but due to work pressures only intermittent study has been possible since then unfortunately .
I am learning for academic advancement, work possibilities , social interaction - and there are two books I am longing to read (simplified characters).
All areas need work, especially writing. I had actually covered a reasonable amount (speaking/rea ding) but it is all so very rusty because of lack of practise. I lack confidence as a result. Understanding as well as speaking is very important.
I am willing, and currently free, to devote a great deal of time to learning - what do those books tell me?
I am looking for clear, accurate, spoken Mandarin,and a reasonably demanding approach.

I am learning because I want to study abroad at a University in China next year. I also want to pursue business plans that involve China. I am a beginner to the Mandarin language. I need grammar and pronunciation improvement. I also need help with the characters. I am very motivated and dedicated to learning the language. I would like to dedicate at least two hours a week in private lessons. I expect the teacher to be patient and understanding that this is very knew to me.
