Description |
I have been studying Hindi for several months in evenings / weekends by textbook and tape. I can read Hindi but I need practice in both listening to a Hindi speaker, and also in making myself understood in Hindi. I am working during the day (Mon-Fri) but am willing to meet in the evening and/or weekends at a place which is convenient for the tutor. I would consider myself at the mid Beginner stage. I am happy to dedicate 4-6 hours per week to my language lessons. Ideally I would wish for some lessons to be face-to-face, but some lessons, eg homework, can be done by email or on-line. I live in North-West Sydney but am prepared to travel for lessons. I would like to obtain lessons from someone who is a Teacher of Hindi, and therefore someone who knows about matters of teaching/ linguistics. I prefer not to have lessons from someone who happens to be merely a Hindi speaker but who has no previous experience in teaching the Hindi language.

Description |
Why you are learning your foreign language? - I am born in India but came to Australia at a very young age. I've spoken English my entire life. I would like to learn Hindi, and always wanted to learn but never had the time before due to other studies. I would now like to learn conversationa l Hindi, so I can speak fluently. I am not interested in writing, just conversationa l Hindi.
You r proficiency level - My proficiency level is definitely beginner. In fact, I would say that I would be starting from scratch. I know a few phrases here and there, but no idea to what level.
Are as I need improvement - Conversation and as a result, grammar too.
How much time you want to dedicate to your language lessions? - However much time it requires to be able to learn Hindi within a 1-2 year time frame. Please advise how long that would be.
What qualities you are looking for in your lessons or in your teacher? - I want them to have proven experience teaching someone with NO Hindi speaking ability, to now speaking fluently in conversation. I have to see this experience and also how long that student took to get there and what their study requirements on a weekly basis were. These would be my basis for selecting a tutor. And something that is affordable too.

Description |
Namaste ji
my name is Michelle, I recently completed 5 weeks of introductory Hindi classes at Landour Language School in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. I am a junior doctor and I have been to India a few times before for voluntary medical work. I plan to continue this work in the near future so I would like to improve my Hindi. I will be working full time from May 2010 onwards, so ideally I would have classes on a weeknight or in day time on weekends. Two hour classes once a week is realistic for me. I may have to work rurally on occasion so some flexibility with class times or even the possibility of online classes would be appreciated. Landour Language School based their lessons on their own textbook, the lessons were heavily grammar-focus ed. I need to consolidate what I already know, and practice conversation, reading and writing.
S incerely, Mic helle

Description |
I want to find a Hindi teacher, who lives or works in the Newtown area of Sydney. I have travelled to India for many years and have studied Hindi there, but I want to be proficient in the language.
I can read at a very basic level and have a very basic conversation and would like to be fluent in both areas.
I need a teacher who is quite flexible in their hours because I do shift work, therefore it would be difficult for me to committ to a certain time every week.
