I want to be able to speak in Mandarin so that I can have a conversation with research subjects in West Kalimantan. I have never studied Chinese before although I like Mandarin movies, including those directed by Zhang Yimou. I do not need to read or write as my focus is establishing a conversation with Mandarin-spea king respondents. I am thinking about having 2 two-hour lessons per week on a monthly basis. I hope I can become conversant in 3 months but I like to evaluate things per month. I like to have the option to cancel at end of each month. If I like the lessons, I can even extend to 6 months or even a year. I like to have an Indonesian Chinese teacher who can encourage me to talk on all matters using Mandarin. I like lessons to be informal but effective and the teacher to be friendly and responsive.
