My mother is Korean and I've been yearning to learn the language so I can communicate with her as well as my Korean family in their native tongue. While I did spend nine years in South Korea, I did not learn the language fluently and have forgotten most of what I did learn. My proficiency level would probably be beginner or slightly above. I need improvement in all areas as my goal is to speak the language fluently. I am here in Melbourne doing post graduate studies, but would like to allocate as much time as I can to learning Korean. It is a very important aspiration of mine. An ideal teacher would be one who is committed, involved, cares about teaching, and understands the intentions of the student. I would like a teacher who also is aware of the colloquial or slang terms used in everyday speaking.

I want to take time to learn Korean because I want to keep the culture in my family. I just took a year off to learn Spanish and Now I am basically fluent in Spanish but I now I cant say anything in Korean anymore. I have learned how to read and write letters but of course I need to practice more. My mother is Korean and I have an aunt to practice with via internet. I am a hard worker and take my studies very seriously. I expect to be given hw and I am looking for someone who can teach me to be fluent. I have my citation from the University of Maryland in Korean studies.
I want to learn sign language because my grandmother was deaf and blind and I was never able to communicate with her. She has passed away but I still think it would be great to have something in common with my father.

I love learning languages but at this point my life I find a lot of interest in learning and speaking east asian languages. I speak basic Korean and I can read and write, I would just really like to practice my speaking and grammar. I haven't studied Japanese enough to read so my level is very low.
The thing is this.. It's been very hard to find somebody willing to spend enough time to teach because most people are busy and teach as a side. I would like to dedicate as much time as possible. For Japanese, I would say about 12 hours a week but it'd only be for a month and if I do well in understanding and seem to make progress pretty well then the time would be minimized. For Korean, I would spend as much time as possible as well, it's hard to say how many hours but in a week meeting 3/4days is good.
I would like my teacher to be confident and challenging. It'd be good to have a teacher who is willing to spend time as well.
Also, a teacher who can also be a friend would be great!
