I am a complete beginner in every sense of the word.
I want to learn Gaelic because it's the language of my ancestors. My father's family was from Scotland and my mother's Ireland. I'm not sure how similar the two are, I do know from past conversations with people that there are distinct differences, but would like to learn some of both.
I would like to learn conversationa l Gaelic so that when my brother and I rent a house this coming summer I would be able to speak some Gaelic. We're going to rent this house in Scotland, so that's my first preference, Scottish Gaelic, but we're also travelling to Ireland. (I was there last year and know that Irish is now a working language there and would like to learn it as well.)
I could dedicate at least an hour a day or some days more to learning the language.
I am looking for a teacher with a good foundation in teaching conversationa l Gaelic, as opposed to one teaching textbook methods of grammatical structure, etc.

I am a lover of all things Scottish. I love the history and love to plan vacations there. I have always considered it my dream vacation to go and have bought language help CD's to help me learn Gaelic but with no homework or someone to practise with, it gets very hard very quick and I have no idea how to proceed. I had put aside my dream for a time but have recently become engaged and he wants to take me to Scotland for our honeymoon. While I know that Gaelic is not spoken everywhere, I know it is spoken and truly desire to learn this beautiful language. Please help me.

Beginner...rea ding 'Teach Yourself Gaelic' by boyd robertson & iain taylor (with CD's) half-way through.
I want to visit Scotland next March with family. I'm not Scottish but love the language (esp after hearing a version of Amazing Grace in gaelic).
I need work on everything, vocab, syntax, etc.. Also don't know how I sound when I speak the language.
Can spend an hour per day easily..Am semi-retired with business activities.

I am very interested in learning Scots Gaelic. I had begun to learn it more than 20 years ago, but will still be at the beginning stage. I am doing this for personal enhancement, as I would like to be able to speak Scots when visiting my late husband's relatives in 2009.
