I'm a beginner at all the languages I want to learn. There is no practical purpose for my desire to learn, really; I simply want to. However, I do see practical benefits like being able to converse with people around the world, and being able to read foreign texts in the original language. I suppose you can't truly judge Sartre's or Voltaire's or Rilke's or Homer's works if all you've read are the English translations.

very beginner.
why i am learning is i have a wonderful chinese girlfriend and i have travelled to china for 1 month 07, i wish to learn to help me communicate more effectively with my girlfriend and also i have a love for china and the chinese way.
the areas i am interested in are long term full converstaion and games and things i can use on a daily basis would help.
I would be willing to dedicate 1.5 hours a day driving to and from work and also 1 or 2 lessons per week.
the qualities i am looking for in my future teacher would be interesting converstaions , games and interactive cds for my car. a professional attitude and experience in teaching from a beginners level with patience as i am finding learning chinese to be quiet challenging!
