I am learning Arabic because I am planning to continue my studies of Islam and the Middle East through graduate school as I get my PhD to become a professor. I have learned the Arabic alphabet and know simple phrases and sentences. I would like to advance my knowledge of both MSA and Jordanian colloquial Arabic, as I will be studying in Amman in the fall. I will be volunteering in Jordan for eight weeks this summer and would like to spend afternoons working on Arabic- about 12 hours of in class time a week plus generous amounts of out of class work. I would like my teacher to be trained in teaching Arabic as a second language to English-speak ers, to be dedicated to helping me learn as much Arabic as possible, and to push me to learn Arabic.

I want to learn Kurdish because I am interested in Kurdish culture and would like to eventually work in the Kurdish autonomous areas of northern Iraq. I have zero experience in Kurdish; however, I speak Hebrew as my second language, and can already read and write Arabic characters. I am a beginner knowing very little spoken arabic and also can read and write arabic but cannot understand. I am interested more in conversation rather than grammar.
