I am a member of an international community of volunteers. We are from 8 different countries but we share a common cause. We educate youth about risk behaviors so that they can make good decisions based on good information and we educate their parents so that the parents can do the same.
I have just returned from Paris where I attended a week long symposium. I studied French for three months before I traveled using a Berlitz Program. While I have made improvement, the manner is too slow. I need to progress much more quickly.
The level of understanding I need is beyond conversationa l. I have written a program of intervention and need to translate the work and then be able to instruct others on how to use it in both written and oral communication s translating French to English and English to French.
I interface with an Association in Paris, France. We communicate primarily in writing but are now speaking on the phone more often and another symposium will occur later this year.
I lived in Italy for 4 years when I was in high school (30 years ago), however I have retained what I learned of the Italian language. I also studied Latin in high school as a member of a choir. I have a good ear and a basic understanding of romance languages.
My schedule is flexible as I am a full time volunteer. I am able to devote as much time as necessary to my studies to achieve my goals: fluency in both oral and written communication s. Thank you - Carrie Draher
I am an intense student. I am very motivated and need to learn quickly. I have a great deal to communicate with my associates in France, Canada and South Africa.

I want to learn Japanese (and possibly Mandarin Chinese) because I am planning to visit Japan (and China) and would like to be able to communicate in Japanese (and Chinese though it is less important). I am also interested in learning about Japanese culture.
I am currently a beginner with no previous background in Japanese.
I interested in learning conversationa l and grammar skills first and then moving on to reading and writing.
I have as much time as is necessary to dedicate to learning the language.
I am looking to learn quickly so I would appreciate a teacher who is able to provide material and direction for learning outside of the lessons. I would like a teacher who is a native speaker and who has lived in Japan for a significant period of time. It would be nice if my teacher could teach me about Japanese history and culture in addition to the language. My teacher should speak English fluently as I don't know any language other than English at this point.
As I mentioned above, while my primary focus will be Japanese, I will also be visiting China and would therefore be interested in a teacher who has some background with Mandarin Chinese as well.

So far I've had 2 semesters worth of Russian and I really, really want to develop my conversationa l skills. I feel sort of inadequate when it comes to speaking the language. As of now I would consider myself a beginner still.
I'm learning Russian because I like the language, I am interested in the culture and literature and hope to study abroad someday. I would love to someday become an interpreter if possible.
I would like to dedicate at least 2 hours a week then move up to possibly 4 hours. Maybe a 1hr lesson a day.
What I'm looking for in a teacher is patience, drill work especially for speaking and definitely things about Russian culture and life.
