I have about 10 words of Mandarin in total and now really need to start taking serious lessons. My wife is Taiwanese but fluent in English so I have been quite lazy in terms of learning the language. But now I want to learn properly. My focus will be on basic grammar initally before moving on to simple conversations which I can then practice with the wife and other friends. I'm pretty busy at work so am looking to spend probably 4 hours a week on this max. The teacher should make me feel relaxed as I'm a bit conscious of making mistakes, I don't want to feel like I'm back at school. So an easy going teacher is essential.

I have studied Mandarin Chinese 5 months with a native Chinese speaker. March to July 2008. However, I've changed job location in S. Korea and am looking for another native chinese speaker to continue my studies. I am still a beginner. I've studied probably around 200 characters. I've worked hard on correct pronunciation and learning to write and recognize Chinese characters.
I would like to study Chinese in mainland China perhaps 2010. I am also considering teaching there.
I would like 3-5 hours a week. I want individual instruction.
The instructor must be native Chinese or has spent considerable time studying/teac hing Chinese. The instuctor should have an intermdiate level of English.

I just took a month long immersion program in Beijing and am now probably a low intermediate in Mandarin. I am learning the language just for the sheer fun and challenge of it but am hoping eventually I'll be able to find a job or career in which I'd be able to use it. My listening skills is probably what I need most help with. People can usually understand me when I speak but I still have difficulty understanding other people. Also, sentence structure! I have difficulty speaking more than four-five word sentences.
I would probably want to take lessons a couple hours a week. The qualities I look for in a good teacher are patience, and a genuine love in teaching the language.
