Hello,
I will be traveling to France in December this year and am very interested in learning as much of the language as I can before then. The trip is not for business, and my goal is to acquire a moderate level of conversationa l French so that I can interact with people in social settings while I am there. (In other words, I want to learn much more than how to order in a restaurant or give directions to a taxi driver.)
This site asks me if I want to focus on grammar or conversation, but I don't see how you can separate the two. For me, conversationa l skills will come only through an understanding of how the language is structured. I don't want to memorize a bunch of phrases in isolation; I want to learn how French works, so I have a solid foundation on which to build my skills. I also really want to learn proper pronunciation .
I am a complete beginner; I've never studied French before. However, learning languages is not new to me- I've studied German and Japanese extensively- so I have a firm grasp of grammatical concepts, as well as learning strategies to employ.
I will be in Saigon for the next 6 weeks, until mid-April. (I plan to continue studying French elsewhere after I leave.) I would like to take lessons for 2 hours per week, with assignments to work on in between sessions.
I would like to meet in person for lessons, but I'm fine with receiving feedback from assignments over phone or email (I'm not sure how to break it all down in terms of time/ I'm open to suggestion.)

I have been learning French mostly for personal enjoyment and achievement. My proficiency level is high end beginner, possibly close to intermediate. I would particularly like to improve my conversation skills.
I would like to be able to have a language lesson in the morning at least twice a week.
