My father is Italian and he taught me a few hand gestures when I was a child (some of which invoke quite a startling reaction when used on the highway!). I guess that makes me a beginner.
My wife turns 50 next September and I am planning a surprise trip to Italy for us as a birthday present to her. I would like to learn some of the language before I get there!
I would like to learn conversationa l Italian (without the gestures!).
I'm not sure how much time this will take. I've never taken a language outside of high school before. Also, I need to do it secretly so my wife won't find out. I really don't want to spoil the surprise. I'm thinking at least an hour a week lesson plus homework.
I don't have any particular qualities in mind for a teacher other than some sort of sense of humor.
