I lived in Xiamen and Shanghai, China, for a year, but I worked within English-speak ing firms most of the time. So I have a very basic understanding of the language and yet liked to learn and (here's the important thing) USE what little Mandarin I would learn. I loved how the people would really appreciate my effort to speak their language, so now I want to learn how to engage a little more in everyday conversation. I’m not interested in a 'textbook' lesson in grammar or memorizing hundreds of vocabulary words that I won't use; rather, I’m more interested in being able to ask about the prices of products, talk about times, dates, transportatio n-related conversations . I am planning to return to China on a trip in 2006 and would like to have some ability to speak when I get there.

I am definately a beginner in French. I have taken language classes before and find in person is very helpful especially with French the pronunciation is difficult to see on a page even when spelled phonetically. I find I learn better if I am accountable to someone other than myself. I can meet one to two times a week and have plenty of time to do homework, ect. I am a flight attendant, so it could help me in my job. I need someone who is patient, nice and gives positive reinforcement .

I do not currently speak Swahili but have spent significant time in East Africa. I would like to learn Swahili so that I can use it as the basis for learning other Bantu languages in East and Southern Africa.
