I'm starting this page for my little brother, he's 10, and he is passionate about learning Japanese. He's a native Spanish speaker, but is fluent in both English and Spanish. Japanese will be his 3rd language. I am looking for a private tutor that can work with a child his age. He is very mature and very determined. Preferably in the South Bay or South San Diego.

My name is Rebecca Whitaker, and I am an ESL instructor for grades 3-6 for Mesquite ISD. I live in Dallas, Texas. My proficiency level in Portuguese is high beginning. (i.e I know numbers, months, and basic words and phrases such as pronouns, etc) I would like to learn Portuguese because my husband is Brazilian-Ame rican. When we have children, we would like our children to be tri-lingual in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. My husband will only speak Portuguese to our children, so I would like to understand what he will be saying. Also, my husband's grandmother speaks only Portuguese, and I would like to understand her. We are planning on moving to Brazil next summer, so I would like to learn as much Portuguese as possible before the move. I have various texts, but crave communication with a native Portuguese speaker. I need improvement in all areas of Portuguese. I would like to be able to speak Portuguese fluently, I need to work on listening, speaking, pronunciation , grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing. I would like to meet a few times a week over the summer, and I would like 1 hour+ sessions. I would like the teacher to be a native Portuguese speaker whose instructional style is communicative . I would like the focus to be on listening and speaking, with all other elements being supplemental. I could go to the instructor, meet inbetween, or have the instructor come to me.

My proficiency level in tagalog is begginer. I have purchased two books to study tagalog and a dictionary, but I am having a hard time with the verbs and tenses. I'm learning Tagalog primarily because I love to learn other languages, but my wife is a filipina and speaks tagalog. She works full time and doesn't have much time to teach me the rules and concepts of the tagalog language. I learn how to pronunciate and have aquired a decent amount of vocabulary, but still feel like I'm not going anywhere. I would like to speak and teach tagalog to my children, I think it is better for them now to learn while they are young. I have subscribed to the TLC and am watching tagalog movies. I know to learn a language the most efficient way is to submerge yourself in the culture and the language where your are forced to speak and listen, but this is dificult to do because my wife is not a patient teacher, though she tries. It is much easier to speak english. I'm willing to commit 3-5 hours a week, if it is possible with the instructor. Some of the things I am looking for is a instructor with some experience teaching adults and is easy to get along with, I'm not a slow learner but I will require some patience. Also, an instructor who is native to the Phillipines and the culture, and give overall well-rounded lessons. I look forward to progressing in my skills with my new instructor and the experience of a new freind.
