I enjoy studying, to keep my mind active, and stop myself going mad when I spend time abroad with work. Apart from doing an open university degree in Mathematics, I am trying to learn Swedish, and would also like to learn Japanese.
The problem with either of these being that self study can only go so far. With Swedish I have been learning from 'Before You Know It', and a text book to help with grammar. I have found that I learned far faster than I ever did whilst learning a language at school, and have a vocabulary of around 2000 words. I can book tickets, and order food, and otherwise function well enough, both online and in person, but conversationa l practice eludes me, even on visits to Sweden, because the locals all talk such perfect English. The moment they hear my execrable pronunciation , they choose to switch to English instead.
I am looking, therefore, for someone to help me develop my conversationa l skills from non existence to decent functionality , with special attention to pronunciation (No more embarrassing lapses into English!), and help me with the vernacular. Clearly grammar is a concern also, and the vocabulary I know is exceedingly basic, without any nice juicy synonyms.
Someone around my age would be ideal, I suppose, to keep conversation a little more 'natural'.
