Verbo ser/estar II (verb to be)

     We use SER when we want to describe the essence of something, or how a thing is always; and we use ESTAR when we want to describe something's status, or how a thing is at the moment.

Maria é bonita
Maria is beautiful – Maria is really beautiful, maybe since her birthday.

Maria está bonita
Maria is beautiful – In this moment Maria is beautiful, but maybe she is not always like this.

       SER                                                ESTAR

O céu é azul.                              A cerveja está gelada.
The sky is blue.                         The beer is cold.

Meu nome é Ana.                      Eu estou doente.
My name is Ana.                        I am sick.
