Course Description: This course is designed to introduce students to the use of Igbo alphabets and how they are used, the use of vowels and simple Igbo words. Other basic concepts include Igbo values and basic communication s skills and how it relates to our cultures. The major objectives of the course are: 1. To provide students basic ideas on who the Igbo’s of the Eastern and Southern Nigerians are. 2. To provide students the elementary Igbo and to help them recognize trends and changes in the nature and use of the language. 3. To give students orientation on how to use simple Igbo words in communication s and greetings. 4 . To give students access to basic Igbo ideals and values. 5. G eneral cultural orientation.
Conduct of the course The course is a mixture of online lecture and mostly integration. Topics for the lectures are indicated on the course calendar and will be provided to the students at the introduction of the course, with readings and oral presentations assigned. Generally, this course is structured to make the student, an active participant. Students will gain an understanding of some of the major reasons why Igbo language and people deserves a place in the international society because of rich culture and values , ideas and things. Teac her Biography: Chima Ugokwe is an Igbo writer based in Nigeria. He is one of the most awarded young African writer below the age of 40. He has taught basic Writing Skills, Basic Igbo, Principles in Igbo Language Introduction to African Literature and Igbo People and Their Cultures from Nigeria in a university in Egypt, Rwanda and Pakistan. I am also to teach in the Uk soon in African studies. These classes are fully online and are aided by webnar, Skype and several online Apps. And sometimes classes are projected. Other means are through the use social media to interact directly to the students.
