    Teaching Approach

Language learning is different for every person, but if you speak a language (and you do or you wouldn't be reading this) you truly can learn another. 呢真的可以很快开始说很好的 英文!Pronto hablan Ingles! Parlez Anglais!

I sold Rosetta Stone language software for over a year and mostly agree with their philosophy of total immersion because you don't want to have to translate things in your head but to actually think in the new language. But everyone is different and for most people who are just beginning I usually speak quite a bit of the native language, English (or Chinese, if you are learning English from me).

To get started in a language there are a couple of very effective techniques that will get you speaking and understanding , able to have simple conversations , very quickly. One method is called TPR, Total Physical Response, in which you learn to associate what you do to actions or to objects you see. Thus you are relating words and phrases to those things rather than to your native language - thinking in the new language. Another method is LAMP, Language Acquisition Made Practical, in which the language learner is forced to meet native speakers and put whatever they know so far into use.

I have an understanding of linguistics and a variety of language acquisition methodologies , but no matter which we are putting into practice, I make the lessons fun, customized, flexible and very interactive. Language learning takes discipline and practice, but with the way I teach it won't be boring!

My students always have positive comments about my teaching style, whether they are children or adults. Here are some comments:
(m y child)"loves your Chinese class. She said you made learning Chinese fun. Thank you Mr. Park" From the parent of a 6 year old.
"Thank you! (My daughter) is enjoying your class very much and is already spending more time speaking Chinese. Awesome! Thanks again." from the parent of another 1st grader.
"Tha nks for being great teachers and patience with Aaron." from another 6 year old's mom.
"Thanks Mr Parks. I was so surprised when (my daughter) came home and said in Chinese "whats that good smell!" We are originally from India and I think it is so much fun to learn many languages." from the mom of a 2nd grader.
"Gre at lessons. Tim is a very good tutor. He gives me English as Second Language lessons. Tim listens to my needs and has great ideas how to improve my pronunciation or overcome accent problems. Tim encourages me to practice more and more and so to achieve the best results. He is patient and interested. Tim is also flexible and reliable.I am very happy to have chosen Tim as my tutor and would highly recommend him to my friends." from an adult student from Germany.

T here is an advantage to my insights and expertise over even a native Chinese speaker because I have the experience and perspective of dealing with Chinese people (including Chinese officials) as a non-Chinese person, so I can understand cultural situations and know how to resolve misunderstand ings on both sides.

    Program Description

    - Experience teaching English to Chinese people. Currently teach Chinese to 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders at a Chinese academy and tutor an adult in English using Chinese as the primary way to communicate. - While living in China for 11 years, on a regular basis (about once a month) did language teaching sessions and acted as translator/in terpretor for visiting groups who came to China from around the world.
    - I helped Chinese friends in China set up their own businesses focused on orienting Westerners to China, doing translation/i nterpreting and teaching them language/cult ure lessons. I made the curricula and trained the Chinese friends how to do these orientations for Westerners.
    - Currently regularly translate email messages from Chinese friends to people who do not speak Chinese and vice versa.
    - My wife and I adopted a Chinese son while in China, and through the process had to do all the complicated paperwork and negotiations with the Chinese officials entirely in Chinese language.
    - I have developed training materials, including customizable booklets to help visitors to China get around successfully.

    Teaching Experience

Pri vately tutor several adults in English.
    • F or one student who speaks very little English and is intimidated by an English environment, I conduct the lessons in Chinese.
    - In teaching Chinese to small children I am required to constantly assess their progress and creatively and flexibly innovate new ways to engage and encourage them.
    - In tutoring adults in English, I am very capable at assessing each student's needs and problems, such as analyzing how a student is using his/her mouth incorrectly to create sounds, and using effective methods to improve the students' accent and grammar and increase their vocabulary.
