Teaching Approach

Americans on the whole harbor many misconception s about grammar. I will point out the common mistakes that many Americans make while speaking their own language and show how that can interfere with the proper understanding of grammical issues that can be disastrous if they are carried into the learning of a foreign language. I will give the students transformatio n drills to enable them to correctly conjegate verbs and decline nouns. I will point out how looking for cognates help a student develop vocabulary more easily. I am also a poet, playwright and novelist and have studied several other languages than those that I propose to teach so I am keenly aware of linguistic issues.

Program Description

For tutoring I will follow whatever programs the student brings. For beginners I will use a combination of programs from my vast collection of teaching methods. I mainly will refer to Berlitz books with appropriate exercises designed to follow step by step. I believe in finding out where the student has problems and design my assignments accordingly. I often spend a lot of time trying to meet the students needs. I lived in Germany for two years and have a teaching degree in French. I am currently teaching music part-time, but keep my language skills up with my foreign-born wife.

Teaching Experience

I have been teaching private musical instruction for several years and occasionally make use of my language skills with foreign students.
Wh en I received my teaching degree for French in 1971 I student-taugh t in Chicago. A few years ago I taught Spanish briefly for a company located in Schaumburg. I don't recall the exact name, but I keep my foreign language skills up. I believe that I am quite qualified to teach German and French.

I do not belong to any professional foreign language organizations . When I graduated from North-Eastern Il. University I was certified at that time.
