I've been teaching myself languages since I was a teenager and having been teaching languages to others for over a decade. As a result of both, I have taken diligent interest in the researching into the best methods for language learners (including myself) to absorb the language in the quickest and most efficient way possible for speedy proficiency. After a decade of experimenting different techniques as well as understanding how the brain best learns, I have now written a book on this, and since applying the techniques I have had students learning the target language quicker than ever before. I integrate methods used by others in the past as well as my own. Because of the book, I clearly can't give the game away here with regard to methods. I indeed have an effective strategy, but all I'll say here is that the foundation of it is my maxim, "first time familiar, second time learning".

Having taught language at a University for almost a decade, my courses are based on course books. However, while in the early days of my teaching, I erroneously believed that learning grammar alone would enable one to speak through simply gaining knowledge of the rules, I soon realised that in fact it takes place through grammar and repetitive practice of those in a practical way so as to enforce 'muscle memory' as it were, and enable the learning to enter the subconscious. It's all about taking the knowledge from the conscious to the subconscious and my activities do that. Very quickly do students then find themselves acquiring the language. And most importantly, my lessons are fun as languague learning ought to be.

Teaching Experience

I have been a school teacher since 1998, teaching Maths, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Critical Thinking, and languages. I have also taught languages at a college of London University since 2000 and am an language examiner at another of its colleges.

I have a BSc in Maths and Physics, an MA in South Asian Studies, and am currently completing a PhD in the Study of Religion. I am also teacher trained in the UK insomuch as I have a PGCE qualification .

My teaching schedule is generally flexible, and I take payment at the end of each lesson.
If I were to sell myself, I'd say that the best compliment I've received about my language teaching is when a student said she wanted to join a language class each year, and didn't care what language was being taught, as long as it was being taught by me. With the initial language she wanted to learn, having failed with other teachers, she believed not only that it was unteachable but that she would never learn it. She said that being taught by me, she actually felt there was hope, and in due course her acquisition of the language turned into reality.

Cost of Lessons

Depending on numbers of students, fees will vary. The hourly fee starts at £25 per person for up to three people, and less per person as students numbers increase in a group. If there is a requirement for me to travel to you, that will also be factored in. But please don’t simply judge a teacher by the ‘value’ of their fee: in education, you tend to get what you pay for. If you want to be taught by a qualified, respected and experienced teacher, it is necessary to budget accordingly.
