Teaching Approach

I will test current language skills during the first lesson. The test is split into three parts: listening/und erstanding/spe aking, reading/under standing/respo nding, writing/gramm ar. After that I will agree a course of action and individual lesson plans with the student based on their skills and individual targets. I believe that practice is most important and therefore I would prefer to teach in video conferencing as this would allow a high quality of speaking practice to be delivered. However, I can also offer lessons based on correspondenc e only were speaking can be recorded and will be assessed later.

Program Description

English language resources are drawn from a wide variety of books and students can receive copies of the material studied in class, though a textbook might have to be purchased later on. I can offer extensive help in IELTS exam preparation.

Teaching Experience

I have been teaching languages, computing and business studies for a couple of years at Higher Level as a tutor. Before that I have been working as a private tutor on a one-on-one basis with children aged 7 - 16 in Germany. I have been working in several jobs in business and IT over the past 10 years in the US, UK and Germany and have worked in many multi-lingual environments and used 4 languages on my jobs regularly.

Teacher Training

I have a German university degree in Business Studies and a PG-Diploma in Information Systems from the UK. As part of my German degree I completed a certificate that allows me to train and develop junior employees. My teaching experience has been gained purely on the job but I have had good reviews from students and parents on my teaching methods.

What is your teaching schedule?

At the moment I offer Saturday lessons; timeslots will be arranged with the student. However, where students feel they need lessons more than once a week, I can offer evening classes during the week.

What is your payment policy?

Th e first lesson is free of charge (based on a one hour lesson). After that payment should be made by Friday before the next lesson takes place (advance payment). I a student cancels a lesson 2 days prior to the next lesson than no charge will be made. The lesson can be re-arranged if necessary. However, broken lesson appointments will be charged at the relevant rate.

What other relevant experience makes you a more effective teacher?

A s I have experience covering a wide variety of professional backgrounds I understand the needs of different language learners no matter what their age and cultural background. I frequently encounter students who study at Higher-, A- or university level who do not have the necessary language skills to master the course content. Therefore a lot of my teaching experience is based on subject oriented language problems as well as enabling students to use specialist vocabulary more confidently.
