I use the Communicative Approach (CLT) in my classes. In other words, I put into practice the following:
a) Encourage learning to communicate through interaction in the target language from day 1;
b) Use authentic resources (Portuguese/E nglish) in the classroom (i.e. newspaper, magazines, music, films, books, etc);
b) Whenever possible, link classroom language learning with language activities outside the classroom;
c ) Provide online exercises and recommend software where I can monitor and access the student's performance and completion of course work.

Program Description

The courses are customized to the student's needs and level. In general, I use textbooks, videos and multimedia resources that provide an equal balance of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities.
- All language resources are free and provided in PDF (textbooks, multimedia, CDs, etc);
- I offer courses in Brazilian or European Portuguese;
- Minimum 2 hour class per week (this will vary depending on student’s availability) ;
- Online assistance (Skype, Google Talk, Messenger, etc);
- Location: Ottawa (downtown area)

Teaching Experience

I have been teaching Portuguese and English since 2003 as a private teacher, part-time professor, and as as private language school teacher.
In addition, I have taught Brazilian and European Portuguese to many Canadian diplomats (DFAIT, CIDA, Environment Canada, and DND)who are now posted abroad or have returned from their mission.
Helping students overcome accent challenges is one of my specialties, as a linguist.

1. What is your teaching schedule?
- During the week, I am available mornings, afternoons and evenings. I am also available in the morning, on weekends.
2. What is your payment policy?
- I accept cash payment at the end of each class.
- I accept cash payment at the beginning of a 4-week session. If you are buying a package, I accept e-mail money transfers as well.
3. What is your cancelling policy?
- I require 24 hours notice for a cancellation. If don't show up or cancel with less than 24 hours notice, I will charge the full fee for the class.
4. Where do you offer your courses?
- I can can teach at the student's home or workplace if it's not too far from downtown Ottawa. However, I prefer teaching at the University of Ottawa.
- Online classes are also available via Skype or Google Talk.
5. Do I need to purchase anything?
- No. I will provide you with all the materials in digital format.

Cost of Lessons

Individual classes:
- I prefer to teach 2 to 3 hours per class;
- $30/hr for individual lessons (minimum 2hrs)during weekdays and evenings.
- $40/hr for individual lessons (minimum 2hrs) during the weekend.
G roup classes:
- I prefer to teach a minimum of 2 hours per class;
