Teaching Approach
Our programme offers a three and six-week courses of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) for students aged 14 to 18. The philosophy of the course is based on Theory of Knowledge as studied in the International Baccalaureate . The areas of knowledge explored are: Sciences, Mathematics, Individuals and Societies, Literature, the Arts and ethics. The course is delivered by subject specialist teachers with additional training and qualification s in teaching English, the language of tuition.
The approach to the learning and teaching of English is communicative and follows the 'can do' skills descriptors of the Common European Framework. Preparation for IELTS gives a structure and international ly recognised outcome to the English language element of the course.
In keeping with the principles of CLIL, our programme aims to develop learners' content knowledge, cognitive skills, communicative competence and cultural awareness. British culture is explored in curriculum study and through study visits. Students will also be encouraged constantly to engage in culture communication with fellow members of the international Academic Summer community.
Pastoral care and attention to students' social and personal development is an important feature of Academic Summer. We are also aware that the course takes place in the students' school holidays and provide the highest quality of surroundings, accommodation , leisure facilities and catering.
