English conversation: A topic for student to discuss, and I will take part in the conversation, topic refers to Chinese culture, history, modern society, arts, geography, travel experiences, etc.
Pinyin -- introduce the four tones, basic pinyin to pronounce Chinese mandarin
C hinese conversation/ group work/pair work - After initially presenting new language in a controlled way. I will lead into more freer practice with the use of such things as simple everyday scenarios that the students can practise in pairs/groups or as a class, depending on numbers. This might take the form of a conversation, role play or discussion, depending on the level.
I like to involve some elements of my own province's culture, such as dialect and local customs. I am from Yunnan Province, which contains many ethnic groups as well as Han Chinese. I find this brings a unique element to the lessons and stimulates conversation and can lead to hands-on practical uses of the language through exploring arts and crafts and food culture, among other things.
