Possible move to Hong Kong. Want to learn Cantonese for Hong Kong and Mandarin for business purposes.
I'm a complete beginner. I'm able to get assistance at home as my boyfriend is from Hong Kong and speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin.
I feel the most important aspect of the language for me to learn would be conversationa l, in order for me to live, communicate and function in Hong Kong.
All my days are free as I work evenings. I am able to dedicate at least 3-4 hours per week.
I am most interested in a teacher that is interactive and patient as I know very little. I feel that it would be beneficial to learn proper tone, focused on conversationa l skills before learning grammar and written Cantonese and Mandarin.

My family is Cantonese, and I know how to understand the language pretty well as far as basic conversation goes. I want to improve my reading and writing, as well as speaking on a more professional and advanced stage because I want to communicate in Cantonese in the future if I return to Hong Kong for jobs or internships. I just don't want to let what I do know about the language now to go to waste. The level I am at would probably be intermediate, but I am not sure. As far as understanding goes, I can watch the news or shows or listen to everyday converstation w/o any problems, but if I try to respond it is a lot harder. Also, my vocabulary is limited to everyday phrases, so in a professional setting, many words/phrases are hard to understand. As far as reading and writing goes, I've had many years of traning for mandarin since I was put into those classes when I was younger and I lived in Beijing and Shanghai, but attended international school, while having private Mandarin lessons at home. So used to be able to read and write in Mandarin pretty well, but 4-5 years w/o practice has made me forget a lot. I also never use/practice Chinese in my everyday life since I don't speak it to people around me. So I feel like I would like to improve on wriitng and reading at a more advanced level, especially with traditional Chinese. I can probably only have a once a week class, but homework or self-study wise, I can be pretty dedicated to review work on my own. Classes wise, I would probably only be available weekends, but this would depend on my school schedule. For a teacher, I guess I'm actually looking for someone more strict, since I really need someone who can nitpick at my pronunciation and mistakes. I like a teacher who is really precise and cares a lot about teaching and the language since I am also passionate about learning. Also, at the same time, I'm an easy-going, quiet kind of person, so I need someone patient and understanding . I also work hard, so I expect a lot of efficiency when it comes to teaching, as in a teacher who understands the student, and of course vice versa.

Oh, and I'd also prefer group lessons, since there can be group conversations .
