Re: whale meat
Peter,

certainly in past decades more whale meat was eaten in Japan than now. However, whale meat is still eaten there, e.g. the tail meat called “onomi” (尾の身), prepared as either sashimi or steak, and the belly meat called “unesu” (畝須), which is made into whale bacon. An online search in Japanese for whale meat (鯨肉) will reveal many whale meat products that are still consumed in Japan.

A reply to you and the previous responder - During the war, Japan needed meat. Whale meat was the most avaiable, hence the trend. These days, Japanese people eat beef

Want to learn more about Korean culture
Hello, I am looking for Koreans that can answer these questions:
What practices are most important in Korean culture?
What is Korea's view in gender roles?
Does Korea have a hierarchy or what is their social power?
Does honor/pride or shame/dishonor play a role in Korea culture and if it does how so?

Italian Culture
What is traditional home-life like (e.g., extended family living in one home, grandmother is primary caregiver, children work to support the family)?

Do other relatives often live in the same neighborhood?

During familial interactions, who is the traditional family authority? Who will make decisions regarding a client's care?

What are the names and titles that are most appropriate to use when interacting with various members of a family?

What is the predominant religion? What are the religious holidays and customs? How might a person's religion influence his or her attitudes toward speech-language pathology services?

What are the predominant beliefs concerning disabilities and interventions?

What are the traditional views of a woman's role? How is a female professional likely to be viewed? What might be the social expectations of a female clinician (e.g., is shaking a man's hand inappropriate)?

What are the traditional views of a child's role in learning? In interacting with adults?

Christmas / Noel
How do you celebrate Christmas in your country, or in your family since I guess not all families celebrate the same way all over the country.
In Germany we celebrate Christmas in the evening of 24th December. The families get together, have dinner, light the Christmas tree and some candles and give each other the presents.
Most families also go to church but we don't do in anymore. Since I never go to church, what sense is there in going there just this night? It does not mean I do not believe in God. But I think God can be anywhere not necessarily in church.
Usually on 25th December the families get together again for lunch.

Re: whale meat
Hello there,

there are some concerns about whale meat. One concern is that certain species of whales that are valued for their meat are unsustainably hunted; for example, species such as fin whales and sei whales are endangered. Another concern is the level of mercury in whale organ meat, which can be toxic to humans if such meat is eaten frequently.

The environmental reason for eating whale meat that you’d presented, viz eating humpback whales to reduce the number of attacks on humans by great white sharks around Western Australia, seems somewhat contrived. Great white sharks follow their prey, which include humpback whales, and humpback whales are found near Western Australia from April through December. Between 1995 and 2020, there have been 18 deaths in total from great white shark attacks around Western Australia, and only three of those deaths were in the southern hemisphere summer, from January through March, when most people go to the beaches. Arguing for increased whale hunting because of 18 human deaths by great white sharks over a 25-year period seems to me to be an extreme reaction.
