Re:hi !
Bon jour, Charlotte,
Was that Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca you read, or a different story with the same title?
I have been using books to learn foreign language for some years now, and I find the best way to hang onto them is not to try to learn them all at once. When I read through a book the first time, I underline all the words I don't understand, but I just try to figure them out from context and from how the words look while I'm reading.
Then I go back every so often and look up only those words that I need to look up in order to understand what is happening in the story.
Finally, I take only the words I looked up that will be useful to me in conversation and I make flash cards out of them. I carry them with me for a week and I use them in sentences when I talk to people. If I can use a word in conversation two or three times a day for a week, I usually get to keep the word.
bon chance!

Re:Re:Re:Recomiendo
Claro, hombre,cómo no!
Ahora estoy leyendo a Ray Bradbury. -XXX- ***LiNtU***
Hi Hanna,
Mark Sacramento, CA USA.

Re:Jonathan Safran Foer
Well, these aren't private conversations Julie. I'm delighted you felt free to jump in.
I agree; Bradbury is definately the shiznit, as you say. I spent a time voraciously reading every book with his name on it. What did you think of Dandelion Wine? I loved Farenheit 451, the Martian Chronicles, the Illustrated Man was my very favorite. Now i have a brother who never read the book, but is well on his way to making the character a reality.
Which are your favorites? Have you read any Pournelle or Niven?
Welcome! (Or should I say, "bienvenue"?

Re:Comics or books?
Hi Kactusqueen,
Have you read "Everything Is Illuminated" by Jonathan Safran Foer? My girlfriend Judy and I are reading it together, and we are laughing so hard our sides are splitting.
For those of us learning language, it gives us an opportunity to laugh at ourselves, because the character who narrates the story struggles with English, and a lot of the humor lies there. On the other hand, for those out there just learning English, it may be very confusing because a lot of the English in the book is very bad on purpose. If you are interested, you can read an excerpt from the book on the Houghton-Mifflin publisher's web site.

Re:any CLAMP fans out there?
Well, they're BOOKS, aren't they?
I went and looked at a couple of web sites that talk about them. It's looks pretty interesting. It's awesome that comic books aren't just a thing for boys with zits anymore.
<<okay, so maybe it's not exactly literature, but is there anyone else here that likes any of the manga series by CLAMP? I love them!>>
I'd love to hear more about what you like about them.
