MLA Language Map
I just learned of a really interesting Internet resource. The Modern Language Association (MLA) has a non-profit (org) website. Their home page has a language map that lets you look at the United states from a broad range of points of view (local, the whole country, whereever) and select from any of 33 languages spoken in the U.S., and see how meany people speak that language in each area of the map. The map is organized by zip code and by county. It's pretty cool!
They need one for the rest of the world!

Sugerencias para teclear las letras internacionales
Hola Sarita, Margarita, y todo que quieren leer:
Cuatro maneras de entrar las letras internacionales
Si puedes usar MS-Word para escribir tus mensajes para MLE, hay cuatro manaras para teclear los acentos de español, y francesa, y otros lenguas europeas. La primera es lo que ya he decido antes a Margarita, usando el teclado numérico para entrar los códigos Alt propios para cada letra cuando quieres entrarlo.
La segunda manera es usar el orden "símbolo" (symbol) en el menú "insertar" (insert). Allí hay todos los símbolos que puede teclear en el alfabeto internacional común, incluso los como á, é, í, ó, ú, à. è. ì, ò, ù, â, ê, î, ô, û, ä, ë, ï, ö, ü, ç, ß, æ, ñ, ¡ y ¿.
La tercera es usar los instrucciones en MS Word que puede conseguir si buscas ayuda con "keyboard shortcuts for international characters" (atajos teclados por las letras internacionales). Esta texta de ayuda nos dice como usar combinaciones de teclas para teclear tales letras. Así que si quiere entrar un ñ, solo hay que sostener la tecla, "ctrl" y "Shift" al apretar la "~" y luego soltar los tres y apretar la "n". Puede entrar una "á" por sostener "ctrl" al apretar la " ' " soltar los dos y apretar la "a". Si quieres hacer que el accent grave (grave accent), solo hay que usa la " ` " que es en la misma tecla con la " ~ " en vez de la apostrophe (apóstrofo) que es en la tecla con las marcas de cita. Se hace muy parecido con los caracteres con " ^ ", y usa el punto doblado, " : " para hacer lates letras como ö y ü. Los ¿ y ¡ se entra por apretar ? o ! al sostener todos los tres de "Alt," "Shift", y "Ctrl".
La cuarta manera es instalar las programas para los tecleados alternos que vienen con los discos para instalar MS Windows. Hay controladores software por muchas tecleados alterno para cada país. Yo uso lo llamado "United Status—International" que me sirve bien. Tal vez prefieren (prefreís) algunos de los otros. De todos modos, MS Windows viene con instrucciones para instalar y usar las programas para tecleados alternos, y con estos puede entrar también todas las letras para teclear correctamente en todas las lenguas europeas más común.
Por supuesto, cuando has cumplido tu mensaje en MS-Word, puede seleccionar todo el documento al teclear Ctrl-A, cortarlo y apegarlo en tu forma de MLE para presentar las mensajes.
Estos métodos usando MS-Word tienen también otro ventaje, que es muy fácil usar MS-Word's programa para contar las letras en el mensaje. Yo siempre tengo problemas con escribir mensajes que no tienen mas que 3000 caracteres, y el "Word Count" en el menú "Tools" (herramientas) para mi es muy conveniente. Este cuenta no solo las palabras, pero los caracteres también. Nota que MLE cuenta todos los caracteres, incluso los espacios.

Palafox is wonderful, and as far as I know, he's still around. Unfortunately, the lessons didn't work out so well, as I understand it.
There are many good free-on-line Spanish lesson available; just search for "learn Spanish" "online" "free", and you'll find plenty of good sites. Many of us here are happy to help if you have specific questions about the lessons.

I'm afraid nothing ever really happened with that, to my knowledge. However, I was able to find a few good free on-line sites that had some excellent lessons available on them. We're prohibited from naming organizations here, but you should find them if you do a web search for "learn" "Spanish" "online" "free". Add the name "Gerald" to your search string, and you'll find my very favorite site.

English and Japanese Audio/Video/Text Exchange
Hello Everyone,
I'm Bobby. I am American and live in the U.S. I use to live in Tokyo for a short 5 years and have since visited a number of times, mostely for business. I have found it difficult to practice speaking Japanese as there are not as many opportunities as I would like. I would be interested in exchanging English and Japanese language and culture with preferably a native Japanese language speaker but of course open to all. I just want to improve my Japanese and help improve someone's English.
I can use - Skype for audio, Ichat AV for video and audio, MSN for text and I'm open to any other methods that you may have. Romaji or ???(nihongo)is ok.
